Power Automate + VS Code Workshop

Service Description

Most Power Automate work still happens in a browser designer: clicking through action cards, guessing at connector parameters, and squinting at run history trying to find the one step that failed. This 4-hour hands-on workshop moves the entire flow lifecycle into VS Code, the editor where the rest of your engineering work already lives. You'll use an open-source Power Platform MCP server (216 tools, authenticated with the Azure CLI, no app registration required) to plan, build, test, and administer real flows without ever opening the maker portal. You'll leave with a working local setup, a flow you built and debugged yourself, and a repeatable pattern for treating flows like code, something you can diff, review, roll back, and govern. Intermediate level. Familiarity with flows, triggers, actions, and connectors is assumed; no prior AI-tooling experience is needed. WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH A working local setup: VS Code plus the Power Platform MCP server, authenticated and ready to go A flow you planned, built, tested, and debugged yourself, start to finish A framework for choosing the right update strategy (full replace, deep-merge, or surgical patch) and previewing every change before it lands The ability to diagnose a failing flow down to the exact action and loop iteration, instead of re-running blind A habit of auditing who can edit vs. view your flows, plus a built-in rollback path for bad changes WHAT WE'LL COVER Setup & Orientation: install the MCP server, sign in with the Azure CLI, tour the 216-tool surface Plan: turn a vague ask into a validated flow spec using the planning wizard and connector/schema discovery Build: create and update flows, wire up connections, and preview every change before it's live Test & Debug: run flows with real data, drill into loop-level failures, and replay exact trigger payloads Administer: audit permissions and roll back bad edits with version history Bring a laptop with VS Code installed and access to a Power Platform environment where you can safely create and delete flows. You'll leave knowing how to ship, debug, and govern flows without ever touching the maker portal.
